2000-2010 inter-censal estimates

The Census Bureau has released the inter-censal population estimates for the decade just ended. These numbers may be considered as an improvement over the ("post-censal") estimates that we have been working with for the past 10 years. The Bureau uses the estimates base (2000 census counts, adjusted for geographic changes and CQR changes) and the 2010 counts to frame the estimates. Then it takes the original estimates and applies a smoothing algorithm to make them arrive at the "correct" 2010 values.
The data are available at the nation, state and county levels. We have downloaded the raw csv files and have converted the data, creating three data sets in a new subdirectory of the popests directory. Go to the popests directory with uexplore (http://mcdc.missouri.edu/cgi-bin/uexplore?/pub/data/popests) and select the intercensal20xx subdirectory. You'll see the csv files as downloaded from the Bureau web site (http://www.census.gov/popest/intercensal/county/county2010.html) and the three new data sets. Access Datasets.html to see the metadata for these 3 new sets.
We plan to create a new version of our poptrends web application that will give users easy access to these data with the ability to compare these estimates with the corresponding post-censal figures.
